Seven out of 10 Spaniards consider to be adequately fed. However, data from the II Observatory Nestle Nutrition and Lifestyle Habits of Families show that 70% of Spaniards do not do the recommended five daily meals and 90% do not take a full breakfast or no breakfast.
The difference between perception and reality of our nutritional habits is evident in the latest Nutrition Habits Observatory published by Nestle. Thus, the Spaniards often use all kinds of excuses to justify the reasons why not eat well.
What, five meals a day? It is not uncommon for many people intake mid morning snack and skip. 48% of those not taking anything at midmorning says that meal is skipped because it has the habit, 35% do so because they are hungry and 16%, because they do not have time. Similar excuses are given in the case of snack that 52% say they do not snack ene porqu has a habit of doing so and 39% because they are hungry.
Only 30% make the recommended five meals a day: breakfast, midmorning, lunch, snack and dinner. One in six of the three main meals are skipped.
Breakfast, pending
Only 10% make a full breakfast according to the patterns of a balanced diet. This should include three food groups: a milk (a glass of milk, yogurt ...), cereals (bagel, toast, whole grains, ...) and a piece of fruit or fresh juice.
In this regard it is noteworthy that 90% of Spaniards do not perform a full breakfast or no breakfast. And, in addition, 44% of those who take nothing for breakfast in the morning and, therefore, do not eat any food for about 6 hours.
Hydration, a basic question that always forget
One of the main results of the study is related to hydration. While 82% of Spaniards say that consume the right amount of water, 73% do not drink the recommended eight glasses.
As for excuses, focus on statements such as "I have thirst" (39%), "I forgot to drink water" (28%) or "cost me / I have to force" (19%), while a 26% of respondents considers just and consume a sufficient amount of water. All this proves that we do not give the importance it deserves to the need to hydrate.
An approved exercise training but hold on sleep quality
According to the Observatory, the Spanish passed in physical activity and rest time, but not in quality of sleep. More than 60% do some physical activity besides walking. As a leading data, almost 50% of respondents walk 30 minutes or more a day. However, over 40% of women surveyed do not perform any physical activity on a regular basis.
On the other hand, 83% of Spaniards are not well prepared to go to sleep because it prioritizes the use of electronic devices before bedtime over more recommendable activities to ensure the quality of sleep as reading, music and hold a conversation .
Why do we eat worse than we think?
- Fruits and vegetables. 64% of the Spanish states that consume the recommended daily amount of fruit but actually a 78% do not: 38% consumes less than the recommended 3 daily servings and even 40% did not consume fruit daily. In the case of men, one in two does not consume even a piece of fruit each day. As for vegetables, 67% reported consuming the recommended (2 servings a day) when, in fact, 58% do not eat vegetables or vegetables daily (66% for men) daily allowance.

However, the reality is that 59% consume more amount than it should (2.52 servings per week). In the case of white meat consumption it is quite in line with the recommendations, with a consumption of 4.48 servings per week, slightly higher than the recommended amount (3-4 servings a week). His image support, and that 48% of women think that is a healthy meat.
